I am now back in Florida, currently camped out at my sister's place but looking for work and an apartment. Lost the truck, some asshole plowed in to it, smashed in the driver's side so bad they bent the door posts and popped the rear axle off. I really loved that beast too, I'm sad to have to let it go. On the upside, I've started collecting historical firearms again. Piece #1 is a Mosin Nagant 1891/30, the primary Russian rifle of WWII. My particular one was built in 1927, a really great find and it was more than likely fired in anger at some point in it's service life. As far as I can figure, it is either an ex Dragoon model modified to the new standard, or it is an early prototype of the 91/30 which went in to mass production in.. you guessed it.. 1930. Either way it's pretty cool.
Now the stock and barrel bands aren't original, and it looks a bit beat up.. some of the bluing is flaking off, and the finish on the stock is worn in parts but otherwise in good condition for an 85 year old gun. It was also only $120 for the rifle, bayonet, tool and cleaning kit, oil can, and two ammo pouches, so I'm thinking this may make a good project for me. Refinish the stock, re-blue the metal parts, make it look nice. Would anybody here be even remotely interested in me posting photos and journal entries for the restoration project?
